S-D Consulting (Scotland) Ltd can plan, write a comprehensive procedure, source tools and equipment and supervise your complex Wireline Fishing job to a successful conclusion.
Wireline fishing is a specialist subject that requires as much planning and accuracy as, for example, running a plug. If there was a requirement to run a 2.75” Wireline plug, it would be unacceptable to run a 2.5” because it was the only plug available.
Unfortunately it is invariably assumed that Wireline toolboxes will carry sufficient tools for every eventuality, and that in the event of the Wireline breaking downhole, everything required to fish is immediately available. As this is an expectation from a customer, and due to the Wire having broken, the operator already feels his company is vulnerable and will often not admit any lack of equipment that may reflect badly on his company’s reputation. Consequently the operator may run tools that he has available, even though they might not be suitable for the particular job. Equally as often the operator does not have sufficient knowledge to be able to identify the correct tools for the job in question.
In our experience, Wire fishing is invariably an immediate reaction to a problem, and time is seldom taken to shut down and plan an appropriate response.
The requirement to fish wire is not as common in today’s oilfield as it was 20 years ago when wire was not as reliable, and the breaking strain of wire not as good. Consequently, Wireline Operators do not gain the experience necessary to become competent ‘fishermen’. Most operators that I surveyed on courses have only a very sketchy idea of the Wire fishing process. Wireline operators may aspire to be good fishermen, or even imagine that they are, but knowledgeable fishermen with a good track record are rare.
At S-D Consulting (Scotland) Ltd we understand Wireline Fishing and the techniques and correct tools and equipment necessary to clean-up even multi-fish Wells. We can supply experienced supervisors for Wire fishing with Slickline, Braided Line, Coiled Tubing or a combination of services as appropriate to the job. Every job is fully planned and submitted for approval prior to preceding.
